Parent Tips for Helping your Child Become More Principled:
- Have a discussion about honesty. What does it mean to be honest? Why is honesty important?
- Demonstrate being principled by following rules and talk with your child about your actions (stopping at stop signs, following speed limits etc.)
- Encourage your child to play games that involve partners or teams. Discuss with your child qualities of a good team player. Who would they choose to play on their team and why?
- When your child wins a game insist that he or she is a well-mannered winner. They might thank their opponent or shake hands with them if it’s appropriate.
- When playing a game, don’t change the rules or let your child win. Being a gracious loser is just as important as being a good winner.
